AMSWin Basic Training:
Import Inventory List - Removing Dashes From Stock Numbers

Applies to: AMSWin 1.x
Last updated: Friday June 29, 2007.

SUMMARY
To allow AMSWin users to update their
inventory prices and products automatically it was necessary to
standardize the way Stock Numbers are used in AMSWin. If you have
dashes in any of your Stock Numbers, they must be stripped out
before you will be allowed to import the latest Inventory List.
AMSWin may be able to strip the dashes out of your stock numbers
for you.
In the past, some of our customers have used
dashes to differentiate between case prices and single item
prices. Since AMSOIL has added separate stock numbers for single items, the
dashes are no longer necessary. If you continue use dashes in
this way, AMSWin will not be able to strip the dashes out. The
reason is because AMSWin will attempt to change a Stock Number
like AMO-01 to AMO01. If you already have an AMO01 in your
inventory list, AMSWin will provide you with information to fix
this. You must change the Stock Number that was added to
represent a single item before the inventory list can be imported
successfully. If you have difficulty figuring out which Stock
Number to change consider this example.

PROCEDURE
If AMO-01 is being used to represent a case of
product (12 qts.) and AMO01 is being used to represent a single
quart you would:
- Leave AMO-01 alone because in the AMSOILã price list AMO01
is used to represent 1 case of 12 qts.
- Change AMO01 to AMOQT, which represents 1
qt. in the AMSOILã price list.
- When AMSWin strips out the dashes from your
Stock Numbers, quarts sold and cases sold will continue to be
separated and the prices of both AMO01 and AMOQT will be updated.
- This is the one-line description of Step Three.
You have completed
the procedure.
