FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AMSWin and the October 1 Product Code ChangeHow AMSWin is Affected, and What You Should Do to Prepare for December 109-29-2007 -- As you can imagine, any change to AMSOIL product codes (stock numbers) will cause some concern and some additional work for dealers. In this case, due to the scale of the change, some AMSWin users have expressed great concern regarding both their ability to place orders using AMSWin after October 1 as well as what the product code change will do to their order history. I'll address both issues and our short and long-term plan to bring AMSWin and you through the change unscathed. The most obvious concern expressed by AMSWin users is "Will I be able to place orders through AMSWin on October 1?" The answer is yes. According to AMSOIL, they will continue to take orders using the old product codes through October and November to give preferred customers, commercial and retail customers, and AMSWin dealers time to transition their processes to the new codes. AMSWin will still provide updated price lists using the old codes until then. By mid-day on October 1, the new prices will be made available for download from the AMSWin website. This will give us until December 1 to prepare and test a conversion process that will be safe and complete. Another question has been "How will the product codes look on my orders after the conversion?" Our plan is to add the unit of measure to the product code if it is necessary to make it unique. TSO for example has two units of measure, EA (Each or Single Unit) and CA (Case):
TSOQT will become TSOQTEA Greases have three units of measure (EA, CA, PK). For example:
GLCTB will become GLCTBEA Some have asked "Will I be able to see prior order history using the new codes or the old codes?" At this time it is our intention to give you a one-time choice when you decide to initiate the product code conversion. Be thinking about whether you would like your prior orders to exactly match the receipts you have given your customers, or if you would rather see a consistent customer ordering history. You will have to make a choice between these two scenarios. For example, if you choose not to convert your order history's product codes, when you run an "All Orders of a Particular Product" report you will not see any orders prior to your conversion date since orders placed in the past used a different number. You can run the report two times to get the before conversion and after conversion. You won't have to make this decision until you convert your product codes and you have until December 1 to do that. Finally, the big question is "What do I need to do on October 1?" The answer is, simply update your price list as you normally do once you see that the new prices have been posted to our website. AMSOIL should send them to me first thing in the morning, and I will be able to prepare the file and post it by noon central time. When AMSWin is ready to handle the conversion safely, we will make the upgrade available for free on our download page, and we will give you more instructions.
